Botany is the study of plants. This course is meant to explore the life of a plant, and to present to you an intriguing look at how plants themselves experience the world. – from the colors they see, to the sensations they feel, to the way they attack and defend themselves.
Your learning will come through hands-on activities, group discussions, experiments, writing exercises, team activities, and independent work. We will be working outside, in the classroom, and in the greenhouse.
The course will be presented in 7 units
Your grade in this course will be predicated mainly on your full participation in activities, and on your achievement of learning goals. The midterm and final exams will be project-based. Doing well in this class will take a great amount of hard work, perseverance, and continued effort on your part.
The final grade for the course will be calculated as follows:
I have high expectations for each and every student in this class. High school classes meet every day without rotation for the entire semester. It is therefore imperative that you complete all assignments and keep on top of your work. Unless otherwise noted, homework is due to me at the start of the class. Late assignments will not be accepted, and will result in a zero. For major assignments, a late penalty of 15 points per day may be subtracted from the grade you achieved on the assignment.
You are expected to come to every class with the previous night’s homework completed. You should have your journal and a pencil ready to go!
